Supporting Families in Rwanda

Our Iris Kigali Center in Rwanda is now operating two sponsorship programs, a Community sponsorship program, The Kigali Kids Club, and The Kigali Child sponsorship program. Both of these programs work to keep the families in the Kigali community strong. Healthy families create healthy children! One of our main goals in all our programs is to lend strength to families so at-risk children are able to stay in their families and grow up healthy and strong!

The Kigali Kids Club - Community Sponsorship Program

Many of our Community Programs focus on supporting families. Healthy families create healthy children! For the children who are in our full-time care, we are always working toward family restoration when possible. One of our main goals within our Community Programs is to lend strength to families so at-risk children are able to stay in their families and grow up healthy and strong! The Kigali Kids Club meets every Saturday morning in Kigali, Rwanda with an average of 50-60 children coming from the community to play, receive love, as well as to hear a Bible story. The children love to answer questions about what they learned the week before and are eagerly learning how to pray. Children attending the kids club range in age from 3-15 years. old.

The Kigali Children’s Center - Child Sponsorship Program

The Kigali Child Sponsorship Program is an individual child sponsorship program for children in the local village community. These children are currently living with their families but are in desperate need of basic assistance. Right now, the program is starting with providing for the education of the children in the program. They are empowering the primary age children to go to school and providing much-needed school supplies for the new school year which started January 2020. This year we were able to give over 300 children in our community and the nearby village a bright start in their education with school supplies and new backpacks! As the program grows and gains more sponsorship, it will provide for other basic needs such as food, clothing, housing assistance, access to medical care, and more! The goal of this program is to keep families together and provide the support they need to care for their children well! Many times families have to send their children to live in children’s center’s because of extreme poverty and not because the children are orphaned. One of our goals is to prevent children from needing to live in children’s centers by lending assistance to families.

The Kigali Children’s Center

We believe in healing for the mind, body, soul and spirit. The mission of the Kigali Children’s Center is to give children individualized spiritual care as well as meeting their physical needs that will provide a self-sustaining future when they would otherwise be facing many challenges. This kind of healing will impact not only one life but also future generations to come.

WHAT MAKES THE KIGALI KIDS CLUB UNIQUE?

One thing that makes our Iris Kigali Center so unique is the story of the Director's Alexis and Kaysha. They are newly married and just had their first baby! Alexis is Rwandan and during the genocide against the Tutsi tribe in Rwanda in 1994, Alexis lost most of his family members, leaving him orphaned at the age of 13. He survived through the mercy of one woman who kept him hidden in her home. At the time, the loss, trauma, and grief affected Alexis to the point of drugging himself in order to sleep. By the grace of God, he was found by a ‘Good Samaritan’, who took him from the street and returned him to school. His life and future was changed by the kindness of God through one person who stopped to take time for him. Since then, Alexis has given his life to the ministry of Jesus and wishes to see many people changed by the healing power of God through love.

Kigali Kids Club

Their dream is for children who have experienced similar hardships and trauma to come into the healing reality of family. God’s heart for those who were once far off, is to be healed through receiving a Spirit of adoption found in the person of Jesus, someone who stops, sees, and offers open arms of safety.
